Naturally dyed Easter eggs

This year, I decided to try out different methods for dying Easter eggs using vegetables and fruits. I tried this recipes, so you don't have to. Some worked well and...others didn't.

Φέτος θέλησα να δοκιμάσω διάφορες μεθόδους βαφής αυγών με λαχανικά και φρούτα. Εδώ θα δειτε τις συνταγές που δοκίμασα για να μη χρειαστεί να τις δοκιμάσετε εσείς. Κάποιες φέρνουν αποτέλεσμα...ενώ άλλες ειναι αποτυχία.

All recipes I found on Pinterest, said that I should use white eggs. It makes sense, the white will show the colours brighter. Also, in most recipes the eggs had to be boiled and be in room temperature when placed in jars with the dyes.

Όλες οι συνταγές που βρήκα στο Πίντερεστ συμβούλευαν να χρησιμοποιήσω λευκά αυγά. Είναι λογικό, το λευκό θα αναδείξει τα χρώμματα πιο καθαρά. Επίσης, έπρεπε να βράσω τα αυγά και να τα αφήσω να φτάσουν σε θερμοκρασία δωματίου πριν τα βυθίσω στις βαφές.

Beets
Boil 2 medium sized beets and 2tbs of white vinegar for around 15min. Remove the beets and let the dye cool. Place the dye and eggs in a jar over night. You will get a "rustic red"...or brown.
By accident I cracked an egg, its inside became pink but it was still brown on the outside. FAIL

Πατζάρια
Βράζεις 2 πατζάρια με 2κσ λευκό ξύδι για περίπου 15 λεπτά. Αφαιρείς τα πατζάρια και αφήνεις τη βαφή να κρυώσει. Βάλε τα αυγά στη βαφή και άφησέ τα όλη νύχτα. Υποτίθεται θα έπαιρναν μια θολή απόχρωση κόκκινου...αλλά εμένα μου βγήκαν καφέ. Ένα αυγό ράγισε από λάθος και το ασπράδι του έγινε ροζ. ΑΠΟΤΥΧΙΑ

Carrots
Boil 3-4 carrots with 2tbs of white vinegar for around 15min. Remove the carrots and let the dye cool. Place the dye and the eggs in a jar over night. You will get "bright yellow" eggs...or light brown. FAIL

Καρότα
Βράζεις 3-4 καρότα μαζί με 2κσ λευκό ξύδι για περίπου 15 λεπτά. Αφαιρείς τα καρότα και αφήνεις τη βαφή να κρυώσει. Βάλε τα αυγά στη βαφή και άφησέ τα για όλο το βράδυ. Υποτίθεται θα είχαν ένα όμορφα κίτρινο χρώμα..βγήκαν ανοιχτό καφέ. ΑΠΟΤΥΧΙΑ

Red onions
This is the only recipe that calls for raw eggs. Boil the eggs with the onion peels for 15min. At that moment I removed one egg, because it had a nice yellow colour. Let the other eggs in the water overnight. You will get rustic red...yes, a rustic red! SUCCESS

Κόκκινα κρεμμύδια 
Αυτή η συνταγή θέλει ωμά αυγά. Βράζεις τα αυγά μαζί με τις φλούδες κρεμμυδιών για 15 λεπτά. Αφαίρεσα ένα αυγό γιατί μου άρεσε το κίτρινο χρώμα του. Τα υπόλοιπα τα άφησα όλη τη νύχτα στο ζουμί. Όντως είχαν ένα σκούρο κεραμμυδι χρώμα. ΕΠΙΤΥΧΙΑ

Blueberries
Crash a bunch of blueberries in a jar, add 2 tbs of white vinegar. Place an egg and fill the jar with boiled water. After 3 hours and you will get a light blue shade...the egg looked purple at first, but turned blue as it dried! The longer you let them in the dye, the darker they get. SUCCESS

Μύρτιλα 
Ζούλα με ένα κουτάλι μπόλικα μύρτιλα στο πάτο του βάζου. Πρόσθεσε 2κσ λευκό ξύδι, το αυγό και γέμισε το βάζο με βραστό νερό. Θέλεις το αυγό να καλυφθεί τελείως. Μετά από 3 ώρες το αυγό θα πρέπει να ειναι λέει μπλε. Αλλά βασικά, το αυγό φαινεται μωβ εκείνη τη στιγμή. Όταν στεγνώσει θα γίνει μπλε. Άφησέ το περισσότερη ώρα για να έχεις πιο σκούρα απόχρωση. ΕΠΙΤΥΧΙΑ

Beets again
Cut a beet in small pieces, place it in a jar with 2 tbs of white vinegar. Place an egg in the jar and fill up with boiled water. After 3 hours you will have a light pink egg...yes, a light pink shade! They get darker shades the longer they soak in the dye. SUCCESS

Πατζάρια ξανά
Κόβεις το πατζάρι σε μικρά κομμάτια και το τοποθετείς στο βάζο με 2 κσ λευκό ξύδι. Βάζεις το αυγό στο βάζι και γεμίζεις με βραστό νερό. Μετά από 3 ώρες έχεις όντως ένα ελαφρώς ροζ αυγό. Όσο πιο πολλές ώρες το αφήσεις στο βάζο, τοσο πιο σκούρα η απόχρωση. ΕΠΙΤΥΧΙΑ

I don't mind slightly brown-beige eggs...but certainly children would be disappointed.

Cake topper

This one is not handmade. But it is so cool, we wanted to share it with you.
Το άγαλμα για τη τούρτα μας δεν ήταν χειροποίητο. Αλλά μας αρέσει τόσο πολύ που θέλουμε να το μοιραστούμε μαζί σας.

Γνωριστήκαμε στην Ολλανδία κατά τη Βραδιά της Βασίλισας, πίνοντας τη μπύρα Grolsh με το χαρακτηριστικό πράσινο μπουκάλι. Για αυτό αποφασίσαμε ότι το αγαλματάκι θα πρέπει να αντιπροσωπεύει αυτή τη στιγμή. Ετσι, φορέσαμε τα πορτοκαλιά μας και ποζάραμε όλο τσαχπινιά. Λεπτομέρεια: τα παραδοσιακά ξύλινα τσόκαρα.

We stood in the centre of that camera mounted skeleton and in a second pictures from all angles were taken simultaneously. Later on Yiannis edited the 3D model and added the beer bottle.

Σταθήκαμε στο βάθρο, στο κέντρο της όλης κατασκευής με τις φωτογραφικές κάμερες και μέσα σε δευτερόλεπτα μας σάρωσαν από όλες τις πλευρές. Στην επεξεργασία, ο Γιάννης προσθεσε το μπουκάλι της μπύρας.

 The statue can stand on its own...and seriously it balances better than me when we stroke the pose!
Now we have the statue in our home as a fun and personal decoration.

Το αγαλματάκι στέκεται μόνο του και ισορροπεί καλύτερα από εμένα κατά τη διάρκεια της σάρωσης. Είναι ένα πολύ προσωπικό και όμορφο στοιχείο στη διακόσμιση του σπιτιού μας.

Decoupage coasters

Super easy way to make new coasters by sticking nice looking paper on ceramic tiles or redecorating your old coasters. I wanted to renew some old coasters I had, a set of 6. I found three different patterned papers that look very similar and nicely geometric.

Δεν υπάρχει πιο εύκολος τρόπος να δημιουργήσετε τα δικά σας σουβερ! Διαλέξτε όμορφα διακοσμιτικά χαρτιά και κολήστε τα σε κεραμικά πλακάκια ή στα παλιά σας σουβέρ.
Αποφάσησα να ανανεώσω 6 παλιά σουβέρ φελού που είχα με αυτά τα διαφορετικά γεωμετρικά μοτίβα.

Make sure the pattern of the paper you choose fits on the tiles. Apply a layer of decoupage glue on the tile and carefully put your paper of choice on it. Make sure you don't have air bubbles, but a smooth surface. Let it dry before adding a layer of glue on top of paper.
You will have to apply several layers and make sure the paper is not gonna get unstuck from the sides.

Κώψτε τα χαρτιά στο μέγεθος των σουβέρς σας. Απλώστε μία στρώση ατλακόλ ή κόλλα ντεκουπάζ και εφαρμώστε το χαρτί. Προσοχή να μην έχετε φουσκάλες με αέρα. Αφού στεγνώσει, περάστε μία στρώση κόλλας πάνω από το χαρτί. Θα χρειαστεί να περάσετε πολλές στρώσεις, και προσεχτικά να στρώσετε κόλλα και στο πλάι ώστε να μη σκιστεί το χαρτί.

Summer bag

In July we are flying to Greece and I needed a funky bag for our trips to the beach. I decided to go all out and do some watermelon patterns on the fabric. It was super quick and simple project. The result was amazing, so i thought of sharing it with you. This is my first DIY tutorial video, let me know how much you like it.

Τον Ιούλιο πάμε για διακοπές στην Ελλάδα και χρειαζόμουν την τέλεια τσάντα για τις επιδρομές μας στην παραλία. Τι καλύτερο από το να φτιάξω μία υφασμάτινη τσάντα με σχέδια καρπουζιού. Η διαδικασία ήταν πολύ εύκολη κι έτσι αποφάσησα να μοιραστώ την ιδέα μαζί σας. Αυτό είναι το πρώτο βίντεο μου για χειροτεχνίες, ελπίζω να σας αρέσει.

Materials:

Cotton fabric tote bag
fabric paints
potato stamp
paint brush
toothpick


- Put a newspaper inside the bag. You don't want to paint to go through and color the other side. You also prevent getting your table dirty.
- Cut the potato in a half-moon shape. Apply red color and stamp the fabric with it.
- With a thin brush paint the green line for the peel of the watermelon.
- Use a toothpick to add the black seeds.
- Let it dry. After ~30mins check that the newspaper is not stuck to the painted side of the fabric.
- In 1-2 hours remove the newspaper. Let the bag dry overnight.
- Iron it in high temperature (the setting of 3 dots on your iron) or according to the fabric's instructions.

- Τοποθετήστε μία εφημερίδα μέσα στη τσάντα. Δε θέλουμε η μπογιά να βάψει την άλλη πλευρά της τσάντας. Έτσι προστατεύετε και το τραπέζι σας.

- Κόψτε τη πατάτε σε μισοφέγγαρο σχήμα. βάλτε κόκινη μπογιά και ταμπονάρετε το ύφασμα.

- Με το πινέλο ζωγραφίστε την πράσινη γραμμή. Αυτή θα είναι η φλούδα του καρπουζιού.

- Με την οδοντογλυφίδα προσθέστε τα κουκούτσια.

- Αφήστε το ύφασμα να στεγνώσει. 30 λεπτά αργότερα προσέξτε να μην έχει κολλήσει η εφημερίδα στο ύφασμα.

- Σε 1-2 ώρες μπορείτε να αφαιρέσετε την εφημερίδα. Αφήστε τη τσάντα να στεγνωσει όλη νύχτα.

- Σιδερώστε το ύφασμα σύμφωνα με τις οδηγίες που σας δίνονται. (το βαμβάκι αντέχει υψηλή θερμοκρασία)

Paper hearts

How about orange

That's a quick last minute Valentine's Day craft. It's perfect if you are a procrastinator or want to do something quick and fun with children to celebrate the day.

You will need:
craft paper

pencil

scissors

glue 

Ορίστε και μία χειροτεχνία της τελευταίας στιγμής, για τον Άγιο Βαλεντίνο. Είναι μια πολύ καλή ιδέα για τους τεμπέληδες ή για όσους θέλουν να φτιάξουν κάτι εύκολο με παιδιά.

Θα χρειαστείτε:

πολύχρωμο χαρτί

μολύβι

ψαλίδι

κόλλα

Draw a heart on a piece of paper and cut it out. Make a small cut in the center of the heart as shown in the picture and fold the corners to the back side.

Σε ένα κομμάτι χαρτί σχεδιάστε και κόψτε μία καρδιά. Κάντε μία εγκοπή στο κέντρο της καρδιάς και διπλώστε τις γωνίες προς τα μέσα, όπως φαίνεται στην εικόνα.

Take the two corners you folded to the back and glue them together. They will make a bumb upwards and have a more 3D look now. 

Τώρα πάρτε τις δύο γωνίτσες που διπλώσατε και κολλήστε τις μεταξύ τους. Θα κανουν μια καμπύλη προς τα πάνω και θα φαίνονται τρισδιάστατες τώρα.

Plaited updo

Few weeks back I tried this updo and I loved it!

It's super quick and easy to make, but it looks very elegant and classy in a non uptight way.

In this picture you can see the result of my efforts. A bit messier than the one of the video, but equally pretty. 

Πριν από μερικές βδομάδες δοκίμασα αυτό το χτένισμα και πραγματικά το λάτρεψα!

Είναι ένας πολύ απλός και γρήγορος κότσος, ο οποίος δίνει ένα πολύ εκλεπτισμένο αποτέλεσμα.

Στη φωτογραφία βλέπετε το δικό μου αποτέλεσμα, λίγο πιο ατίθασο από εκείνο στο βίντεο, αλλά εξίσου όμορφο.

Follow the instructions in this video and you will prepare it in no time.

Paper snowflakes

Perfect diy to spend a Christmas morning with your children!

You will need white paper in square pieces. You can use colourful paper for more colour-block result.

Τέλεια χειροτεχνία που μπορείτε να κάνετε με τα παιδιά!

Θα χρειαστείτε λευκό χαρτί κομμένο σε τετράγωνα διαφορων μεγεθών. Μπορείτε να χρησιμοποιήσετε πολύχρωμα χαρτιά αμα θελετε μια παιχνιδιαρικη εκδοχη!

Fold the square diagonally to form a triangle. Fold it now in half and make a smaller triangle. Continue folding until you have a thin triangle.

Διπλώστε το τετράγωνο διαγωνίως ώστε να έχετε ένα τρίγωνο. Διπλώσε στη μέση για να σχηματίσετε ένα μικρότερο τρίγωνο. Συνεχίστε μέχρι να έχετε ένα λεπτό τρίγωνο.

Use your scissors to cut the level the edge (this will give a more round shape to the final snowflake). Cut out small pieces, either symmetrically or randomly, as you like.

Με ενα ψαλίδι κοψτε την προεξοχή (ετσι θα δωσετε ενα κυκλικο σχημα στο τελικο αποτελεσμα). Κοψτε διαφορες εγκοπες στο τριγωνο σας. Καντε τις ειτε συμμετρικα είτε τυχαία.

Unfold the paper and you have your first snowflake! In nature every snowflake has a unique shape. Make sure to follow this rule and have fun!

Ξεδιπλώστε το χαρτί κι έτοιμη η νιφάδα! Καθε νιφαδα έχει μοναδικό σχήμα, φροντίστε να ακολουθήσετε αυτό τον κανόνα κι εσεις.

Greeting cards

This is an easy tutorial on how to decorate Christmas greeting cards using only old book pages.

Ένας εύκολος και απλός τρόπος να διακοσμήσετε Χριστουγεννιάτικες κάρτες με παλιά βιβλια.


You will need:
card stock
old books
scissors
glue

Υλικά:
καρτες
παλιά βιβλία
ψαλίδι
κόλα


Cut a triangle out of a book page, for the shape of a Christmas tree. Cut it in strips or smaller triangles to make it look as abstract as you wish.
Don't hesitate to create minimal or complicated designs.

Πάρτε μία σελίδα βιβλίου και κόψτε ένα τρίγωνο.
Στη συνέχεια, κώψτε το τρίγωνο σε μιρκότερα τριγωνα ή λωρίδες για να είναι το αποτέλεσμα όσο αφηρημένο το θέλετε.
Μπορείτε να κάνετε πολύπλοκα Χριστουγεννιάτικα δέντρα ή λιτά, εσείς αποφασίζετε.




Glue your Christmas tree on the card and write your wishes inside.

Κωλήστε το Χριστουγεννιάτικο δέντρο πάνω στην κάρτα κι είναι έτοιμη να στείλετε ευχές στους αγαπημένους σας που μένουν μακρυά.

Old books - Part 1

I've always liked book upcycling diy projects, but I would never "damage" a book from my collection.

Luckily I work in a library and we need to remove old and out of date books, which I'm more than happy to reuse in another way!!

You need to choose a thick book in order to have a great result. But it's up to you how tall the book you use will be. Remove the cover and you're ready to start.

Take the first page and fold it in half. Take the second page and fold it in half, putting the edge of the page between the first and the second page. Continue folding each page separately until you finish with the book.

The font size and type of the book you choose will determine the final result. So will the black&white or colorful pictures and the yellowish pages of an old book.

I have mine next to the front door and I store mail and small notes in it. Where will you put yours?

Summer jars

Here is a project for decorating your home or office with natural souvenirs you might be collecting during your summer vacations!  

You will need: 

- glass jars

- sand from a beach or decorative sand

- sea shells

- a needle or tweezers 

- strong glue 

Put some sand in the jar carefully not to make a mess.

Using the tweezers or needle place the sea shells on top of the sand.

Glue a beautiful shell on the cork of the jar and let it dry. Add small amount of glue around the cork in order to close the jar firmly. That way it will never open and spill the sand and sea shells.

Once the glue has dried you can use them to decorate your home or office.

Keep the essence of summer with you all year round.

New look

What can you do with an old pullover and an old chair?

Miracles!!

Τι μπορείς να κάνεις με ένα παλιό, τρύπιο πουλοβεράκι και μία παλιά καρέκλα;

Θαύματα!!

Cut the sleeves and separate the two sides of the pullover, the front and the back. One piece goes for the bottom and the other for the back of the chair. Measure how big the pieces have to be and cut them. Leave few extra centimeters, if it's too much, you can cut it as you go.

Κώψε τα μανίκια και ξεχωρίσε το μπροστά και πίσω μέρος της μπλούζας. Το ένα κομμάτι θα πάει για το κάθισμα και το άλλο για τη πλάτη της καρέκλας. Μετρήσε το μέγεθος που χρειάζεσε και κόψε ανάλογα. Αφήσε λίγα εκατοστά περίσευμα, αν είναι πολύ μεγάλο μπορείς να το κόψεις αργότερα.


With a pair of scissors or a butter knife push the fabric in. Make sure to stretch the fabric well!

Με ένα ψαλίδι ή μαχαίρι βουτύρου σπρώξε το ύφασμα μέσα στην εσοχή που έχει η καρέκλα. Βεβαιώσου ότι το τεντώνεις καλά! 

It's been a year since I "fixed" the chair and it hasn't fallen apart yet. It's a very easy procedure and a good solution to freshen up an old desk chair. Now it fits perfectly in our purple flat!

Έχει περάσει ένας χρόνος από όταν έφτιαξα την καρέκλα κι ακόμη δεν έχει βγει τίποτα εκτώς. Είναι πολύ εύκολη διαδικασία και μία καλή λύση ανανέωσης μίας παλιάς καρέκλας γραφείου. Τώρα ταιριάζει στο μωβ διαμέρισμά μας!
