Summer in Finland

It is time to say goodbye to this summer. I think the best way is for me to share wonderful moments of the Finnish summer with you.

Ήρθε λοιπόν η ώρα να αποχαιρετίσουμε κι αυτό το καλοκαίρι. Ποιος καλύτερος τρόπος από το να μοιραστώ μαζί σας όμορφες στιγμές από το Φινλανδικό καλοκαίρι.

Fishing, biking, hiking or having a picnic. Do what you like most! During the summer months the sky never turns dark.

Ψάρεμα, ποδηλατο, περπάτημα ή απλά ένα πικ νικ. Διαλέξτε και πάρτε! Κατά τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες ο ουρανός δε σκοτεινιάζει ποτέ.

There are so many lakes and even more cabins to spend few days with good friends. 

Υπάρχουν τόσες πολλές λίμνες και ακόμη περισσότερα σπιτια δίπλα στις λίμνες. 

Fun weekends by the lake

 My favorite summer treats are berries and mushrooms. Keep enough of them for the winter and you will never want to eat anything else!

Η αγαπημένες μου λιχουδιές είναι τα διάφορα μούρα και μανιτάρια. Μπορείς να τα καταψήξεις και να τα τρως όλο το χειμώνα!

The summer is full of festivals. People love being outdoors and have fun, listening to some music, trying tasty treats and socializing!

Kallio Block Party

Syystober is an annual festival in the center of Helsinki where one can taste beers you can't find at your local pub and yumie food. 

In the picture from the left:Salmon smoke cooked by the fire, Coffee and Tea being prepared above the fire. Fried fish. Sausages made with beer.

Το Syystober είναι ένα ετήσιο φεστιβάλ στη καρδιά του Ελσίνκι όπου μπορείς να γευτείς ιδιαίτερες μπύρες και φαγητά.
Στη φωτογραφία ξεκινόντας από τα αριστερά: Σολομός καπνιστός δίπλα στη φωτιά, Καφές και τσάι ετοιμάζεται επίσης πάνω στη φωτιά. Τηγανητά ψαράκια, Λουκάνικα φτιαγμένα με μπύρα.

The lakehouse

This September is sunny here in Finland, warm with the occasional fog in the morning hours.
Last weekend we decided to go visit the lake house and relax in nature.

Φέτος ο Σεπτέμβρης είναι ηλιόλουστος εδώ στη Φινλανδία, ζεστός με λίγη ομίχλη τα πρωινά. 
Tο προηγούμενο Σαββατοκύριακο αποφασίσαμε να επισκεφτούμε το σπίτι στη λίμνη και να χαλαρώσουμε στη φύση.

Walking on the dock at 7am was amazing. Birds singing while the fog was smoothly moving above the still lake water. Irakli, our black cat, was watching at my every move carefully from behind the window.
Little did he know that he would get to explore the outdoors for the first time in 6 years of his life so far.

Ήταν μαγευτικό το τοπίο από τη προβλήτα στις 7πμ. Τα πουλιά κελαηδούσαν και η ομίχλη αργά κινιόταν πάνω από τη γαλίνια λίμνη. Ο Ηρακλής, ο μαύρος μας γάτος, με παρακολουθούσε από το παράθυρο. Πού να φανταζόταν ότι αργότερα θα εξερευνούσε τον έξω κόσμο για πρώτη φορά στα 6 χρόνια της μέχρι τώρα ζωής του.

At the lake house there is no running water. You drink water from the well and wash your body with water from the lake, warmed up in a barrel. You relax in the sauna, watch the stars at the clear night sky, drink liqueur in the sun and barbecue mushrooms with feta cheese and bacon.

Στο σπίτι στη λίμνη δεν υπάρχει τρεχούμενο νερό. Εκεί πίνεις νερό από το πηγάδι και πλένεσαι με νερό από τη λίμνη ζεσταμένο σε καζάνι. Χαλαρώνεις στη σάουνα, βλέπεις τα αστέρια τη νύχτα στο καθαρό ουρανό, πίνεις λικεράκι στον ήλιο και ψήνεις μανιτάρια με φέτα και μπέικον στα κάρβουνα.

Αυτό το μαγικό κουτί είναι για τη παρασκευή καπνιστού σολομού. Σούπερ γευστικού καπνιστού σολομού.

On Sunday we decided to try letting the door open and allow Irakli to explore the garden. He was hesitating and he was scared. He needed some ham convincing to step out of the house. He slowly started smelling the grass and the flowers, slowly started climbing on rocks and moving away from the door.
Soon he never wanted to go back in the house but preferred to chill outdoors.

Την Κυριακή αποφασίσαμε να αφήσουμε την πόρτα ανοιχτή και να επιτρέψουμε στον Ηρακλή να εξερευνήσει το κήπο. Δίσταζε και φοβόταν. Χρειάστηκε λίγο σαλαμάκι για να πειστεί να βγει από το σπίτι. Αργά αργά άρχισε να μυρίζει το γρασίδι και τα λουλούδια, σιγά σιγά σκαρφάλωνε σε βράχους και πέτρες και απομακρύνθηκε από την πόρτα. Τελικά δεν ήθελε να ξαναμπει μέσα στο σπίτι, παρα προτιμούσε να αράζει στο κήπο. 


He doesn't like water, so he stayed away from the dock. But he was carefully watching the waves and listening to the water splashing at the shore. He was carefully listening to the sound of birds and we were scared he would run and climb on some tree...but luckily no bird came anywhere close to him.
We will take him back to the lake house soon enough, since Helsinki is a scary town for a house cat..

Δε του αρέσει το νερό, οπότε κράτησε απόσταση ασφαλείας από τη προβλήτα. Αλλά παρακολουθούσε με προσοχή τα κύμματα και ήταν περίεργος για τον ήχο του νερού. Με αφοσίωση άκουγε το κελάηδιμα των πουλιών και φοβόμασταν ότι θα τρέξει και θα σκαρφαλώσει σε κάποιο δέντρο...αλλά ευτυχώς κανένα πτηνό δεν τον πλησίασε.

Σύντομα θα τον ξαναπάμε στη λίμνη, γιατί το Ελσίνκι είναι τρομαχτική πόλη για έναν σπιτόγατο.
