Road trip in Greece

Here is the map of our first road trip in Peloponisos (Greece). You see marked the locations we visited and highly recommend to you all.

Αυτός είναι ο χάρτης του πρώτου μας οδικού ταξιδιού στην Πελοπόννησο. Σημμαδεμένες είναι όλες οι τοποθεσίες που επισκεφτήκαμε και σας συστήνουμε.

This year we visited my dad's village, Palaiochouni in Arcadia, and with our rented car we drove to various locations. 

Φέτος επισκεφτήκαμε το χωριό του πατέρα μου, την Παλαιόχουνη Αρκαδίας, και με το αμάξι πήγαμε σε διαφορετικές τοποθεσίες. 

Giannitsochori beach - Παραλία Γιαννιτσοχώρι

From there we drove to a sandy beach right outside Kyparissia and started looking for a camping site nearby.

We ended up in a small village, Giannitsochori, at a very cool camping called Apollo Camping Village. They have some small forest right next to a quiet beach. You can drive in the small forest, park the car where you like and put up your tent.

The beach had always big waves which are awesome for playing around with inflatable mattresses. In the afternoon, the sun was setting right into the sea coloring the few clouds in the sky.

Sunset - Ηλιοβασίλεμα

 Από εκεί πήγαμε σε μία παραλία έξω από την Κυπαρισσία με χρυσή άμμο και αρχίσαμε να ψάχνουμε για κάποιο κάμπινγκ εκεί κοντά.

Καταλήξαμε σε ένα μικρό χωριουδάκι, το Γιαννιτσοχώρι, στο Apollo Camping Village. Διαθέτουν ένα μικρό πευκοδάσος ακριβώς μπροστά από μία ήσυχη και πανέμορφη παραλία. Οδηγείς μέσα στο δάσος και στήνεις τη σκηνή όπου σου αρέσει.

Η παραλία είχε πάντα μεγάλα κύμματα, τέλεια για παιχνίδι με φουσκωτά στρώματα. Το απόγευμα ήλιος έδυε μέσα στη θάλασσα χρωματίζοντας τα λιγοστά σύννεφα στον ουρανό.

The beach was full of sea turtle's nests.
And in the camping there were many volunteers of Archelon.

Η παραλία ήταν γεμάτη φωλιές θαλάσσιας χελώνας.
Και στο καμπινγκ έμεναν πολλοί εθελοντές της Αρχελών.

We planned a day trip to Neda's waterfalls. We drove through the villages Lepreo, Figalia, Petralona, Platania. We stopped at some of those villages to ask for directions, even though we had the map. It was a great decision, because we ended up chatting with cheerful "grandparents".
When arrived at the archaeological site of Ancient Figalia, we left the car and followed the dirt-road down to the river. It tooks us an hour to arrive at the waterfalls. You can drive all the way there, but we were afraid of ruining the rental.

Σχεδιάσαμε ημερίσια εκδρομή στους καταρράκτες της Νέδας. Περάσαμε από τα χωριά Λεπρέο, Φιγάλεια, Πετράλωνα, Πλατάνια. Σταματήσαμε σε μερικά από αυτά τα χωριά για να σιγουρευτούμε ότι πηγαίναμε καλά και καταλήξαμε να συνομιλούμε με χαριτομένους παπούδες.  Όταν φτάσαμε στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Αρχαίας Φιγάλειας, παρκάραμε το αμάξι κάτω από ένα μεγάλο δέντρο και πήραμε τον χωματόδρομο για το ποτάμι. Μας πήρε μία ώρα να κατέβουμε στους καταρράκτες, φυσικά μπορείτε να οδηγήσετε μέχρι εκεί αλλά εμείς φοβηθήκαμε μήπως χαλούσε το αμάξι.

The location is dreamy and magical!
Crispy cold water is super refreshing in the heat of the day. You can jump and swim in the pools the waterfalls create.
Η τοποθεσία είναι μαγευτική!!
Τα δροσερά νερά του ποταμού είναι αναζωογονητικά μέσα στη ζέστη του μεσημεριού. Σας συστήνω να κολυμπήσετε στις λίμνες που σχηματίζουν οι δύο καταρράκτες.

We returned back to the village where we chilled for a couple of days and enjoyed the company of a cute kitty. He was loving the treats we were giving him but he was always afraid of us. Sitting on the roof waiting for treats or fighting over the territory with some other cat.
The peaceful surrounding of the village was refreshing! We achieved complete relaxation, with the company of eagles, jackals, grasshoppers and the kitty.

Επιστρέψαμε στο χωριό για κάμποσες μέρες. Αυτή τη φορά είχαμε παρέα ένα γατούλη ο οποίος καθόταν στη στέγη και περίμενε φαϊ. 
Η ηρεμία του χωριού ήταν αναζωογονητική! Η απόλυτη χαλάρωση παρέα με τους αετούς, τα τσακάλια, τις ακρίδες και τον γατούλη.

Paralio Astros - Παραλιο Άστρος

On our way back to Athens we made a quick stop at Paralio Astros. An early swim and then walked through the narrow streets and admired the old preserved houses! I suggest you try ice cream from Sweet Cookies pastry shop, it's divine!

Επιστρέφοντας Αθήνα κάνεμε μια σύντομη στάση στο Παράλιο Άστρος. Ένα μακροβούτι και βόλτα ανάμεσα στα σπίτια! Σας συστήνω παγωτό από το ζαχαροπλαστείο Sweet Cookies, απλά θεϊκό!

The trip was amazing and we're so sad that it ended. We're already planning our next visit to Peloponisos and Palaiochouni.
If you drive by the old highway Tripolis-Kalamata you will see our village. Maybe next summer you will find us sitting at the balcony.

One last thing! I highly recommend the tavern "Platanos" at Katw Asea. It's right on the road, you won't miss it. :)

Το ταξίδι ήταν υπέροχο και στεναχωριόμαστε που έπρεπε να φύγουμε. Έχουμε ήδη ξεκινήσει τα σχέδια για την επόμενη μας εξόρμηση στην Πελοπόνησσο και ειδικά την Παλαιόχουνη. 
Αν είστε περαστικοί από την παλιά εθνική οδό Τριπόλεως-Καλαμάτα θα δείτε το χωριό μας. Ίσως του χρόνου το καλοκαίρι να μας πετύχετε κι εμάς στο μπαλκόνι.

Και κάτι τελευταίο, σας συστήνω να σταματήσετε για ένα μεζεδάκι στην Κάτω Ασέα, στη μικρή ταβέρνα "Πλάτανος" που είναι πάνω στο δρόμο. Ακριβώς στη στροφή προς Ασέα και Αραχαμίτες :-)
